Will the snowstorm that has been bothering London and other parts of Europe get here to Sweden? Will it get as bad as it has at the other places? I don’t think so and I’ll explain why.

Sweden is a small country if you count the landmass- about the same size as California – with a very wide variety of weather conditions, especially in the wintertime. I guess many have heard the untrue myth of polar bears running around in the streets.

The climate use to be quite cold, depending on where in Sweden you live. In the northern part they use to get a lot of snow all the winter with many minus degrees Celsius, while the southern part not get so much snow or cold degrees, there it’s more windy instead.

The capital Stockholm is located in the lower part of Sweden’s east coast and seldom get any serious snow masses and one of the reasons is that it got lots of warming water around those 14 islands which Stockholm City consists of.

Somehow the bad weather conditions very often seem to come from the west, meaning that it does hit the western parts of Sweden first and when it finally reaches Stockholm, it has subsided a lot.

So regarding this snowstorm that is on the way over here on Wednesday, it will probably be as usual: some parts of Sweden will be hit by it, but probably not so much in Stockholm. I guess that we’ll get snow yes, but more like normal winter conditions than as a snowstorm.

Stockholm’s international airport Arlanda (ARN) is well located in that matter, so it’s not particularly often they have flight delays because of weather conditions at the airport.

This winter in Stockholm, unlike the rest of Europe, has been unusually warm over here. Or should I say worrying warm? It has been snowing a couple of times and right now we only have the ground partly covered in some white powder.

However, one can never be too sure, so we’re forced to go out Tuesday for a gigantic grocery shopping to fill up our now emptied storage, in case we get snowed in….

You know how much we dislike the snow, so we might go into hibernation (lol) now again as earlier years.

Where I live in the states -Pennsylvania to be precise -we are slated to get a storm tonight into tomorrow morning. I haven’t heard yet the latest accumulation predictions though but earlier they were talking about two possible ways this storm might track with one giving us most likely about 8 inches and the other, probably not quite as much snow but would also bring the potential for the lovely (NOT) “Wintry Mix” -which means snow, sleet, freezing rain, ice all thrown in together. I’d much rather just get the damned snow!
Hope you do get your cupboards filled though just in case you do have to hibernate a bit. I’ve been doing a lot of hibernating this winter. In January, I went three weeks without leaving the house except to put the granddaughter on her school van or get her off it in the afternoon and maybe occasionally going out to check the parking area to see if our evening newspaper has arrived. But I don’t count those ventures as “going out!”

The last few years we have so much snow that I am getting to the point of not liking it very much. I think I am becoming bear! I want to hibernate!

Have you given any thought to taking on a part time gig as a weather forecaster or going on TV to report on the weather?

Oh yeah, so you’re gonna let us Norwegians take all the snow for you!! Since we are your neighbour on the west  That’s okay, we can take it. Although I’m not sure our garage can, I may have to send my son up to shovel the roof again. Hope you get a little snow for the fun of it but not that big storm! The snow is good for you, makes you appreciate those lovely tropical beaches you like to visit so much.

We’ve got it today and Gardemoen airport in Oslo was closed for an hour (not very normal even in the winter time in Norway), so it’s on its way to you I guess.

    Hibernation, the two of you?
Staying inside yeah, but sleeping until end of Winter? LOL.

The weather in Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden, is like the even more exciting capital of Norway (haha), sheltered from the Mountains in Scotland and Norway.
Yeah, as you said: The “Weather” comes from West most part of the year. And the Rain/Snow falls on the West.
But we have are so fortunated that we become enough Rain, so fresh Water is not a problem. In that matter, we are very lucky.
Besides: No Hurricanes, no Tsunamies, no Wild Fires, no Earth Quakes, nor extrems regarding climate and weather. We live in safe corners of Planet Earth.

When I say to people from Norways Atlantic Coast Line:
OMG – It’s blowing, they laugh at me.

They have a saying up North:
When you buy a News Paper and want do read it before at home, you just bend back towards the Wind directiob in 45 degrees angle and open the paper in front of you.
Then you are steady. And safe.

    btw. My dinner is ready

Sure would be strange if we only had that small amount of snow. Banks are so high it is scary trying to back out of the my driveway. We were lucky as the last snow storm went passed us and hit further south. Snow blowers are finding it hard to toss the new snow high enough to land on top of these high banks.Been so cold this winter- was -10 F when I got up this morning. I am in a hurry for spring to get here.
